Community health education

For the last four decades, WAAC has delivered free health education sessions to tens of thousands of people across Western Australia.

Surveys completed with WA high school leavers in 2020 showed that many young Australians hold false beliefs about sexual health, which may lead to poor health outcomes.

Our goal is to equip people with the knowledge they need to make safer and informed choices. Everyone has the right to have sex with the people they want and experience pleasure, safety and respect.

Topics we cover

We work to empower that by educating on the risks (and joys) around sex and by giving people the knowledge they need to take care of themselves. Our topics include:

  • HIV and other blood-borne virus
  • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Safety and pleasure in sex
  • Respect and communication in relationships
  • Consent and negotiation
  • Getting tested
  • Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • Sexting
  • Dating and relationships
  • LGBTIQA+ identities and experiences
  • How to access sexual health services

Students leave with a better understanding of safer sex, know more about HIV, STIs and BBVs and are better equipped in building healthy and respectful relationships.
