Fly Out, Find Out
FIFO workers are three times more likely than other workers to have been diagnosed with an STI.
We work hard and we play hard, which is why Western Australia has the highest rates of syphilis in the country, with gonorrhoea being the second highest nationally.
The catch – most of the time, there are no symptoms, so you might not even know you have something!
Getting tested is the only way to know that you’re up to the task when it comes down to it.
No Point Pissing Around
Testing for the most common STIs is a piece of piss – literally.
Just like a random drug test, a urine sample is all it takes to check for chlamydia and gonorrhoea.
You can add on a quick blood test at the same time to cover all your bases, and work it into a routine checkup. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes.
If something shows up, most STIs can be treated with a single course of antibiotics. Sorted.
Stay on-top of your swing
FIFO life makes it harder to stay across your health. You’re away from your GP, your regular routine, and let’s be honest, getting tested is not the first thing on your mind when you get back.
Staying on-top of your sexual health can be as simple as:
- Using condoms with new or casual partners
- Working an STI test into your regular checkup, or at least once a year
- Getting anything unusual looked at – discharge, sores, or burning when you piss
Looking after your sexual health means that there is more time for fun on your off-swing, and that when it’s time to get to work, you’re up to the job.
